“Full mouth rehabilitation” describes coordinated care for several dental problems. It does not automatically mean extracting all teeth or replacing them with implants. A full-arch implant plan concerns implant-supported replacement teeth. Using these terms interchangeably can create incorrect expectations.
Start with the existing teeth. Ask what problems have been identified, which teeth may be retained and why restoration or replacement is being proposed at particular sites. A coordinated plan may use different treatments according to individual findings. It should not begin with choosing a package name before assessment.
Understand the sequence. Ask the dentist to explain goals, issues that need attention first, restoration options and follow-up. Clarify whether temporary teeth or eating restrictions are expected during treatment. Timing depends on the plan and individual response; FDA guidance notes that implant healing can take months or longer.
Plan maintenance as well as treatment. Restorations and implants still require cleaning and review. Ask for aftercare instructions and a contact pathway if problems arise. If travelling from another country, discuss how follow-up will work after returning home rather than assuming guest accommodation provides clinical monitoring.
