Full mouth rehabilitation is considered when dental problems involve many teeth, the bite or both jaws. It is not one procedure and it is not automatically the same as full-arch dental implants. At Asok Montri Dental Clinic, we build an individual plan around the teeth that can be maintained, the teeth that need restoration and the way the upper and lower jaws meet.
Our full mouth rehabilitation service is led by an American Board-certified prosthodontist and supported by a multidisciplinary team. The clinic provides restorative, implant, periodontal, oral surgery and esthetic dental care in Bangkok.
When a comprehensive plan may be considered
A full mouth plan may be relevant when several problems are present at the same time. These can include missing teeth, decay, damaged restorations, worn teeth, gum problems and changes in the bite. Treating one tooth without understanding the rest of the mouth may not address the complete functional problem.
Severe wear or the loss of several teeth can change how the jaws meet. Remaining teeth may shift into empty spaces, while opposing teeth may move into areas where support has been lost. The assessment therefore looks beyond the appearance of individual teeth.
We begin with the bite and the remaining tooth structure
The first stage is a detailed examination. We assess the teeth, gums, existing restorations, missing-tooth spaces and jaw relationships. Measurements and records help the prosthodontist evaluate the vertical dimension, which is the distance between the jaws when the teeth meet.
When tooth wear or missing teeth has reduced this dimension, the plan may need to re-establish an appropriate height before the final restorations are completed. The goal is to create a coordinated bite rather than restoring each tooth in isolation.
A plan may combine several types of treatment
Full mouth rehabilitation can involve crowns, veneers, dental implants, bridges, removable or fixed dentures and treatment for the gums. The combination depends on which teeth can be restored and where support is needed.
Asok Montri Dental Clinic provides ceramic zirconia crowns and e.max veneers and crowns. The clinic also provides single and multiple implants, full mouth implants and implant-supported denture options. These services do not mean that every full mouth case requires every procedure.
If gum disease, bone loss or inadequate soft tissue is present, periodontal or surgical treatment may form part of the sequence. Some implant sites may require bone grafting, sinus grafting or soft tissue grafting. The timing is confirmed after the relevant areas are examined.
Full mouth rehabilitation and full-arch implants are different
Full-arch implant treatment is designed to replace a complete arch of missing or non-restorable teeth using implants to support prosthetic teeth. Full mouth rehabilitation is a broader planning process. It may preserve natural teeth and combine tooth-supported and implant-supported restorations across the mouth.
The distinction matters when comparing treatment plans. A plan that restores natural teeth with crowns and replaces selected missing teeth with implants has a different scope from a plan that removes the remaining teeth and provides full-arch prostheses.
Treatment is usually organised in stages
A comprehensive case may include disease control, surgical or periodontal care, provisional restorations and definitive restorations. The order matters. Temporary or provisional teeth can allow the dentist to evaluate the bite, appearance and function before completing the final work.
International patients should ask which stages can be completed during each stay in Bangkok and whether healing or laboratory work requires a return visit. The final schedule depends on the procedures included and the response of the teeth and tissues.
What affects a full mouth quotation?
The quotation reflects the number and type of restorations, the teeth being treated, materials, laboratory work and any implant, periodontal or surgical procedures. It should identify temporary and final stages separately when both are planned.
Before comparing quotations, ask:
which natural teeth are planned for preservation
which teeth require crowns, veneers or other restorations
where implants, bridges or dentures are proposed
how the bite and vertical dimension will be assessed
whether provisional restorations are included
which materials are planned for the final teeth
whether grafting or gum treatment may be required
how many treatment and review visits are expected
Maintenance is part of the treatment plan
Restored teeth, implants and prostheses require daily cleaning and professional review. The maintenance method depends on the contours and connections of the final restorations. We explain how to clean the completed work and which areas require particular attention.
Regular reviews allow the dentist to assess the bite, gums, implant tissues and condition of the restorations. Patients returning overseas should discuss how follow-up will be coordinated with a dentist at home.
Frequently asked questions
Does full mouth rehabilitation mean removing all teeth?
No. A rehabilitation plan may preserve and restore natural teeth while replacing selected missing teeth. Extraction is considered only after the condition and role of each tooth are assessed.
Is full mouth rehabilitation the same as All-on-4?
No. All-on-4 is a full-arch implant option supported by four implants. Full mouth rehabilitation can include a wider combination of natural-tooth and implant-supported treatment.
Can the plan be completed during one visit?
Comprehensive care commonly involves several stages. The sequence depends on the condition of the mouth, healing requirements, laboratory work and the restorations being provided.
Who plans the final bite?
At our clinic, full mouth rehabilitation is led by an American Board-certified prosthodontist working with the relevant members of the multidisciplinary team.
