If a crown on a dental implant feels loose, contact a dentist promptly, even if it is not painful. At Asok Montri Dental Clinic, we would want to know which restoration is involved, when the movement began and whether your bite or the surrounding gum has changed. A loose crown is a reason for assessment, not a reason to assume the whole implant has failed.
The visible tooth, its connecting components and the implant in the jaw are different parts. Movement needs to be located before anyone can explain the repair. Do not try to tighten, twist or glue the restoration yourself, and avoid repeatedly wiggling it to test how loose it is.
What might the dentist need to distinguish?
A clinical article published by the Canadian Dental Association describes assessment of a loose implant restoration, including checking the cement connection, screw and implant itself. It also notes that looseness can occur with little or no discomfort. These are possible areas to investigate, not a diagnosis from your description.
At the appointment, ask the dentist to explain which part is moving and what has been checked. “The crown is loose” describes your experience, but it does not yet establish whether the existing crown can be reused or whether a component needs replacing.
What to tell the clinic when you call
Which tooth or bridge feels different.
When you first noticed movement and whether it has increased.
Whether the bite feels different.
Any pain, swelling, bleeding or unusual taste.
When and where the implant and crown were fitted.
Whether any part has already come out.
Use ordinary words if you do not know the component names. A clear account of what happened is more helpful than choosing a diagnosis from an online image. If you have a photograph, it may help identify the location, but it cannot show everything happening beneath the crown.
Bring implant records if you have them
An implant card, treatment summary, previous images or the original clinic's details can help identify the system and restoration. The JCDA article specifically describes reviewing records and confirming the implant type as part of investigation.
You do not need to postpone contacting us while searching for paperwork. Tell us what is available and what is missing. If the implant was placed elsewhere, ask whether further records or confirmation of compatible parts will be needed before a repair can be planned. We cannot promise that every system or component will be immediately available.
Why it is worth arranging an assessment promptly
A loose abutment screw should receive timely dental attention because further component damage can occur, according to the JCDA guidance. Lack of pain is not a reliable reason to ignore movement. Contact the clinic for advice about the appropriate timing rather than waiting for your next routine check.
Tell the team if symptoms change while you are waiting. Ask what to avoid and how to look after the area until the appointment. Instructions should be based on the condition you describe; an online article cannot check whether a loose part is secure or what is causing the movement.
What should a repair quotation explain?
After assessment, ask which finding the proposed work addresses. Does the estimate cover evaluation only, replacement of a component, work on the crown or a new restoration? If more than one outcome is possible, ask what must be established before a final price can be given.
Also ask which follow-up checks are planned and whether the original records can be updated with the repair details. A repair quotation is not automatically the same as a new implant package. Our implant cost guide explains why the scope of work needs to accompany the price.
If you are away from your usual dentist
Tell us your location and travel dates when enquiring. If you are not in Bangkok, do not delay seeking local dental assessment simply to wait for a future trip. Keep any existing records accessible so they can be shared with the dentist who examines you.
Our implant service information describes the clinic's implant care. For a loose restoration, start by contacting us with the symptoms and available records so we can discuss assessment and whether the required care can be arranged. The priority is identifying the problem before promising a particular repair.
