Teeth whitening is one of the most common requests we receive from patients who want a brighter smile without changing the shape of their teeth. At Asok Montri Dental Clinic in Bangkok, we provide two options: Zoom in-office whitening and a dentist-supervised home whitening kit.

Neither option is automatically better for everyone. The right choice depends on the cause of the discolouration, the condition of your teeth and gums, tooth sensitivity, your preferred schedule and the result you hope to achieve. We therefore begin with an examination rather than choosing a whitening method from photographs alone.

What teeth whitening can and cannot change

Whitening is intended to lighten the colour of natural tooth structure. It does not change the colour of crowns, veneers, bridges or tooth-coloured fillings. If restorations are visible when you smile, we will discuss the likely colour difference before treatment. Replacing a sound restoration purely for colour is a separate clinical decision and is not included automatically with whitening.

Some stains respond more predictably than others. Surface staining from food, drinks or smoking may improve after professional cleaning, while colour within the tooth may require whitening or another treatment. A tooth that has become dark after trauma or root canal treatment also needs a proper diagnosis before cosmetic treatment is considered.

Zoom in-office whitening in Bangkok

For patients who prefer treatment at the clinic, we use the Zoom teeth whitening system. In-office whitening is completed under professional supervision and is designed to produce a noticeable change in a single appointment. It can suit people who have limited time in Bangkok or would rather have the procedure managed by the dental team.

Before treatment, we check for concerns such as untreated decay, leaking restorations, gum inflammation or exposed root surfaces. During whitening, the soft tissues are protected and the whitening material is applied according to the clinical protocol. The shade is assessed before and after treatment so that the change can be recorded realistically.

Temporary sensitivity can occur during or after whitening. Tell us if you already have sensitive teeth, exposed roots or a history of discomfort with whitening products. We can then discuss whether in-office treatment, a home kit or postponing whitening is more appropriate.

Dentist-supervised home whitening

Our home whitening option allows you to whiten gradually outside the clinic. It is more flexible for patients who prefer to control the timing and may also be used periodically as advised by the dentist. The kit should be used according to the instructions provided for your teeth, rather than following a generic schedule found online.

Home whitening is not the same as selecting an unknown product from a marketplace. A dental assessment helps identify conditions that whitening will not solve and reduces the chance of applying material to an unhealthy tooth or irritated gum. We will explain how much material to use, how long to wear the trays and what to do if sensitivity develops.

How we compare the two options

  • Speed: Zoom in-office whitening is the faster option and is completed at the clinic. Home whitening changes the shade more gradually.

  • Convenience: An in-office appointment concentrates treatment into one visit. A home kit allows more flexibility but requires consistent use.

  • Supervision: Both options begin with a dental assessment. Zoom is carried out by the clinical team, while home whitening follows the instructions provided for use outside the clinic.

  • Sensitivity: Either method may cause temporary sensitivity. Your dental condition and previous experience help guide the choice.

  • Maintenance: Whitening is not permanent. Diet, smoking, oral hygiene and natural ageing can affect the colour over time.

What determines the cost of teeth whitening?

The quotation depends on the whitening method and whether any care is needed before treatment. For example, active decay, gum inflammation or heavy deposits should be addressed first. A professional cleaning and whitening are different procedures, even when they form part of the same smile plan.

We provide the relevant fee after confirming which option is suitable. When comparing quotations in Bangkok, ask whether the price is for in-office whitening or a supervised home kit, whether an examination is included and whether any preliminary treatment has been recommended.

Planning whitening as an international patient

Our clinic is on Asoke Montri Road, near Asoke BTS Station and Sukhumvit MRT Station. If you are visiting Bangkok for a short period, contact us with your available dates. We can explain the expected appointment sequence, but final suitability is confirmed after an examination at the clinic.

If you are also considering veneers, crowns or fillings in the visible area, tell us at the planning stage. Whitening may affect how the shade of a future restoration is selected. Coordinating the order of treatment helps avoid unnecessary colour differences.

Frequently asked questions

Will whitening make crowns or veneers lighter?

No. Whitening acts on natural teeth and does not change the colour of existing ceramic or composite restorations.

Is Zoom whitening suitable for sensitive teeth?

It depends on the cause and severity of the sensitivity. We assess the teeth and gums before recommending an option.

How long will the result last?

There is no single duration for every patient. Food and drink habits, smoking, oral hygiene and maintenance all influence how the colour changes over time.
